A great piece. My mom was similar — always was dying of something (she did have an illness but exaggerated, leaving me to lie awake each night worrying). And she cut out family members over nothing. I identify with so much of what you wrote. It’s easy enough to say we should all just learn to love ourselves or whatever, but most of that advice comes from people who’ve never had to do that alone.
